How to Sync Clipboard History Between Macs Without Cloud Storage

Keep searchable clipboard history available across nearby Macs over your local network without storing clipboard content in a cloud clipboard account.

Apple Universal Clipboard is convenient when you need the latest copied item on another device. A searchable clipboard manager solves a different problem: finding an earlier link, code snippet, file reference, or block of text after you have copied several other things.

Pasteon can sync clipboard history between nearby Macs over the local network. Clipboard content does not need to be stored in a Pasteon cloud clipboard account.

When local network clipboard sync helps

  • Move between a desktop Mac and a MacBook during the same task.
  • Recover an earlier copied item instead of only the latest clipboard value.
  • Search copied text and links from either Mac.
  • Keep a multi-Mac workflow available when cloud clipboard storage is not desired.

What you need

The Macs should be nearby, running a supported version of Pasteon, and connected to the same local network. macOS may ask for local network permission. Network isolation, firewall rules, VPN configuration, or guest Wi-Fi can prevent devices from discovering each other.

Local-first does not mean public-network-first

Use a network you trust. A local network design avoids cloud clipboard storage, but the surrounding network configuration still matters. Keep macOS and Pasteon updated and review local network permissions in System Settings.
